The Davey family of Violet Town and surrounds was a family of selectors. They seemed to remain mostly in mid and  northern Victoria.

John DAVEY was born-

DAVEY John
At BELFAST, Australia
M. Fanny MCCRAE
F. Henry
Reg 21649/year 1868

And  married

DAVEY Jno
BANKS, Cath Elizth Margt Cecilia
1894
146/1894.

There would be  more to find on him, but you have not given any background (parental, birthplace etc) of Michael Joseph DAVEY, so that would be needed to search for a family connection of the two men.

I am happy to pursue it if you think it worthwhile.

Sue

Thanks Sue, I'm a bit of an amateur when it comes to researching this kind of thing.

MJ Davey's father was Michael Davey, died 1906
His mother Eliza (nee Healey) died 1898 at Creswick

MJ Davey was born at Sulky Gully 1872

MJD was survived by a brother James

So this family was around the Ballarat area rather than Violet Town, so quite some distance apart.

But if you can find any link to the John Davey family, that would help. Thanks so much
