17th Regiment of Foot.

Hoping that someone can help, I am trying to establish whether the 17th Regiment of Foot was in Minorca c1800.

".... The French Revolution brought further unrest to Europe, and the Regiment was brought up to strength by hasty drafts from the Militia and formed into two battalions, which fought under the Duke of York in North Holland against the French Revolutionary Army in 1799, and afterwards went to Minorca.  The 2nd Battalion disbanded in 1802. ......."

Yes as BumbleB says, both battalions went to Minorca in 1800 and remained there until 1802, when they both moved to Ireland. The 2nd Battalion was in Cork where it was disbanded in August 1802.

Thank you BumbleB, that looks to be just what I needed  :).  I have a relation being born in Minorca in 1800 and I was trying to convince myself that I had her fathers military records.

Thank you Andy for the additional information, I have a discharge document for him dated 30th August 1802 which mentions Limerick.  ;D
