The Three Sisters Slater

Hello, I need some help please. I am researching a music hall act called the “Three Sisters Slater”, active from circa 1890 to 1914. The sisters’ names or stage names were Maude, Lizzie and Edie. Maude joined them from a different troupe in 1894. I think they were genuine sisters - when they toured the US in 1895, they gave these as their passenger names.

The reliable outbound record (Liverpool to NY) was as follows:
Arrive NY 16th March 1895.
Maude Slater, born c1874
Lizzie Slater, c1875
Edie Slater, c1876
Nationality for all was English.

Confusingly, on their return to Liverpool, their names were noted differently (although I think the person writing may just have been deaf!).
Maude, Lily, Emily.
Other details the same.

I have this much and a lot of info on show dates, but can’t find the sisters themselves.
One of them at least was living or working at 93 Hackford Road, Brixton, London in circa 1910.

If you use freebmd to look for possible births then use the GRO online site to see if they show the same mothers maiden name

As they were all born before 1881 you could check that census to see if they match any Slater family

There are Maud Slater births around the right time but no Maude

At that address in 1911
Is Mary Ann Sleightholm.  She is head.
It’s a boarding house. And just about all the boarders are music hall artistes.
A daughter is Maude Hall private means age 31 married 5 years. So perhaps a bit young.

But I did think Sleightholm might be the sort of name to change to Slater.

She has three daughters all Actresses

Mary A. 25. Born Gravesend, Kent
Elizabeth 24 born Gravesend
Sarah 23 born Hoo, Kent


Added….Mary Ann, the mother, is on Elecoral roll at same address from 1909

Elizabeth Rachel Sleightholm was baptised RC Bermondsey
Father is “Christophori”
Mother “Marie Anne”
Godparents Richard Baxter & Elizabeth Baxter.

Father Robert. Hers is Henry

There is a marriage in New York on 20 Nov 1905 of Maude SLEIGHTHOLM and Albert E HALL.

Doesn't help with whether she is a Slater Sister though.

And now have Christopher Sleightholme alias Chris. SLATER

I am sure it is them
They  get their ages a bit out (or a lot)  of whack from time to time.
And CANNOT find anyone in 1921 which is a nuisance as I don’t think the mother died until 1925.


I am fairly sure Maude Hall in 1911 age 31 must be Mary Ann born 1868 and that is how she appears in 1939

With
Christopher 16 wineporter (he is a widowed Butcher in 1911)
George 14 ( he is George Ambrose) haven’t found what happened to him
Maria A 11
Sarah 8 born Greenwich

This Christopher, (the one born 1865) is SLATER in 1891 and 1901 as well.

And I think he may have died as Christopher Slater in 1911.
Can clearly see his birth and baptism as Sleightholm

And married Mary Ann ATKINS  St Olave 1882 as Slater

I looked at this last evening and was so unsure, decided not to post.
March 1933 - various newspaper snippets re Mrs Maude Hall, formerly Sleightholm, of Brighton and her husband Albert E Hall. I think they concern his bigamy.
Canada is mentioned as place of marriage, although Maddys52 has found it in N Y.
