Usually the first son is named for the paternal grandfather but I don't see Charles Helliwell having a son David.
Charles Helliwel married Phillis Killingbeck 5 April 1779 she died June 1795.
He then remarried Grace Riley 20 December 1795.
Charles was a Mason
-------------------------
David and Mary didn't name any children David or Mary, then again no Timothy either.
When the children were baptised he was listed as a Weaver.

His son Charles though is a stone mason!!

This could be David's Death registration Halifax Dec quarter 1859 As Hellewell . GRO site gives ages as 75. His wife Mary is a widow in 1861 still living in Elland, which is in Halifax registration district.

The other David married to Ann is 63 Born Sowerby in 1851, so around 1788
He is still alive in 1871 age gives dob ABT 1789 Erringden. He is a farmer.

So perhaps your David is more likely to be born 1786 or slightly earlier.

Hi and thank you again.
I’ve had a look at David (born about 1786) and Mary (Wilkinson) children.
I have Charles, Aaron, John, Moses, Hannah born 1834.
But I’m still a bit confused, does anyone know who David’s parents could be?   ???

Have you looked for wills of any Helliwell/Hellewell family members - not just those named David.

How about the Wilkinson Family did they leave any wills?

They can be very useful with names of children and nephews and nieces.

One thing I did notice Charles Helliwell widower married Grace RILEY 1795 at Elland

When David married Susy Mansley 1805 a witness was Thomas RILEY.

I'm leaning towards Charles being David's father, as his first son is Charles. David himself was a weaver, but his sons Charles and Aaron were masons/ stone masons.

Found so far children of Charles and Phillis Helliwell- St John the Baptist, Halifax
John 1781-1787
James 1783
- gap of 7 years*** when David could have been born-Keep in mind a stone mason might have to travel for work, not every job would be on his door step.
Benjamin died 1790
Betty bap. November 1791 died 1792
Charles   died 1794
Charles  died   1795
-------------------
As far as the children of David goes you are only listing those from the 1841 census.
I gave you the other children
William 1818-1839 ref; Tombstone/Memorial
Susey 1831 1832            same
Stephen 1823  -1833      same
Eli bap 26 August 1821  not mentioned on the memorial/tombstone - need to find out more about him.

Hi,
I’ve not searched for any wills and unfortunately don’t have any that I could look at.  Mary Wilkinson’s father was an Aaron Wilkinson.
Oh yes thank you for those extra child names, I’ll add those 😊.  I really appreciate these extra names and all your help.
The Riley connection is good to know.
Do you think Elland would come under the same area as Sowerby Bridge?
Thank you

Probate would be under the Prerogative Courts of the Archbishop of York.

Both East and West Yorkshire have Archives for all manner of documents
