David Hellewell 1786 of Sowerby Bridge - parents
« on: Thursday 15 February 24 21:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I’m trying to find the parents of David Hellewell born 1786 Sowerby Bridge, Halifax, West Yorkshire.
He married Mary Wilkinson in 1815.  Their daughter Hannah Hellewell born 1834 is my 3x great grandmother.
I think his father could be David Hellewell born 1765 as there is a baptism for younger David in Sowerby Bridge but I’m really lost and I’m at a dead end :(
Any help would be amazing.
Thank you

Thank you so much for searching for me.
I’ve not come across a Timothy.  In the 1851 census his year of birth is 1785.
I wonder how I could find out which baptism it could be?

In 1841 David is living with his family :
David Hellewell   55
Mary Hellewell   50
Charles Hellewell   25
Aron Hellewell   20
John Hellewell   15
Moses Hellewell   13
Hannah Hellewell   8

In 1851 :
David Hellewell   66
Mary Hellewell   60
James Morton   17

Do you think I should try find a Timothy Hellewell in the census ?

I would look for age at death to compare the two David's. Not always accurate, but may be of use.
Any instance of Timothy being used in the family as a name.Often Yorkshire folk used a naming pattern, first son named for father etc.

Any earlier Halewell wills ?

Who witnessed the marriage to Mary?

Did occupations run through the 2 families.

That's all I can think of for now, time to turn in!

Witnesses to the marriage were William Rushworth and Mark Nichol. (ancestry)

They witnessed all the marriages on this page and most other pages, so not related.

It looks like David first married Susy ? who died 1807 then married Mary Wilkinson 16 July 1815 at St John the Baptist, Halifax. Both were of Sowerby

There is a David Hellowell who married Susy Mansley 23 June 1805 at St John the Baptist, Halifax
both were of Sowerby.  both made their mark.
Witness
Thomas Riley and E? Hellowell  (both signed)

Based on the tombstone inscription they are one and the same family.

Note:  Eli isn't on there but the only one I can see so far on census is the son of Timothy.
