The Lane family
« on: Friday 16 February 24 13:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi again all you lovely people.
I am looking for any info on a Thomas Lane 1801-1874, particularly his parents.
There is information suggesting he married twice, firstly to a Mary Evans at Wellington in Oct 1821, she then died 10 years later, and he married again to Mary Cartwright at Dawley magna 17 Oct 1836.
I think this is the family in Donnington 1861, Thomas Lane 61 coalminer, Mary 54, Ann 21, Thomas 18 ironstone worker and James who was also an ironstone worker.
James went on to marry Elizabeth Hart on Aug 4 1873.
Are there any trees out there?
Thanks everyone

Hi
Have you noticed in 1861 he is living next door to William Lane born 1803 also in Wellington?
Their baptisms are
Thomas 30 May 1802
William 9 Sep 1804

Both children of Thomas and Mary.
It looks like Thomas senior was one of the witnesses at Thomas's first wedding.
Other children James 15.12.1799  ,Robert 23.8.1807 ,Elizabeth 4.10.1807 ,Ann 22.1.1809,Mary 28.1.1810,Richard 8.8.1810,and Ellen 9.2.1812.

There are two Thomas and Marys. The right ones are not the carpenter from Hadley.
I'm guessing a marriage at Little Wenlock 25 Feb 1799
Thomas Lane and Mary Pritchards

Just hoping someone can help move us in the right direction with this Lane family.
It doesn't help when everyone you're looking at is Thomas and Mary,it would be nice to have some different names to follow.
So any info to guide me along the right lines would be most welcome.
Thanks.

Hello
Sorry not to get back to you. There are a lot of Thomas and Marys Lane.
I've done some digging and you Thomas and Mary live in Donnington Wood and Thomas is a collier.
So an update on their children after their marriage at Little Wenlock 25.2.1799.

James 15.12.1799 Wellington
Thomas 30.5.1802
William 9.9.1804
Robert 23.8.1807 ? but I think theirs
and Elizabeth 4.10.1807 probably the carpenters
Mary 28.1.1840 ? probably theirs
Emma 9.4.1814 Lilleshall of Donnington wood collier
Sarah 19.10.1817 St Georges of Donnington Wood collier.

In 1841 Donnington wood/Lilleshall
Mary Lane 60 y
Sarah 20 lab
Maria Jones 40 lab

Thomas her son is a few pages earlier in Pains Lane.
Thomas Lane 35 (age rounded down) coal miner y
Mary 35 y
Emma 15 lab y
Ann 1 y
John Davies 12 c miner y
next door
William 35 c miner y
Rebecca 35 y
Mary Ann 15 lab y
James 13 coal miner y
William 11 coal miner y
Robert 9
Joseph 4
Sarah 2 mths

Burials for Thomas and Mary senior
Thomas Lane burial Wellington 1779- 23.8.1835 of Donnington Wood
Mary Lane burried St Georges  1782- 2.3.1846 of Donnington wood

This would fit with a baptism for Thomas Lane
Thomas Lane s of Thomas and Mary Lane at Wellington 26.7.1778

His parents marriage looks like
Thomas Lane and Mary Bailey 27.2.1770 at Wellington
children Samuel 18.3.1771-5.7.1772 (burial at Dawley),Mary 24.1.1776,Thomas 26.7.1778 ,Robert 7.1.1781

Possible Burials Thomas  1743- 30.12.1798 or 1740 -16.4.1810 pauper
and Mary 1747-1.7.1807 pauper

And as for Mary Pritchard I'm not just sure -her burial says born  1782 but the census is 1776-1781
and there are several baptisms.
