Help understanding WW2 RAF service record
« on: Friday 16 February 24 16:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am trying to get my grandfather's full story of his service in WW2. I've received his records and am having a little difficulty understanding some of the content.

For example it states he was promoted to Corporal but his uniform shows sergeant stripes I think ?

He was a flight engineer as far as I can make out.

Among other listings

18 OTU which I believe was Operation Training Unit Bramcote however as far as I can see that was for bomber crew training ... I've read as a flight engineer he would have assisted the pilot on take off and landing, emergency fuel recalculations and a reserve air bomber ? Sep 1941

10 A S S September 1942 which is believe is Air Signals training ?

13 MU October 1942

NWAAF North West African Air Forces March 1943

145 MU Casablanca later in March 1943

Does anyone know 3 FTLU means ?
French Technical Liaison Unit but where that was (3) he was sent there in 1/4/45 for a period of 4 months

He then came back to 144 MU Maison Blanche Algeria

He then came back to Rabat sale in October 1945

And then finally home and prepared for release June 1946

Some things are redacted such as
Character column
Proficiency column

He never had any discipline or time forfeited looks like a model officer and got good conduct among his other awards...

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Thank you
