« on: Saturday 17 February 24 02:10 GMT (UK) »
Hi ,I'm new here. I have scoured cemeteries via find a grave website, plus on Ancestry.. I can't find a thing. The person in question is : Ernest William Woodhead, (1904-1985). He died in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Does anyone have any suggestions  ?

Welcome to Rootschat  :D

A tough nut to crack re his burial isn't he!  Have you considered contacting Doncaster City Council.  They do searches but it will be expensive as the date is before 1995. However if you know the exact date he died they may be able to find it faster.

I don't know if there may be anything in a local newspaper re his death which may state where he is   buried.  Local library perhaps for that.

Have you considered that he may have been cremated rather than buried? Again Doncaster Council Bereavement services should be able to tell you.

The main cemetery in modern use and the crematorium are at Rose Hill.

This is the link for archives and also newspapers in local studies.  They have recently come together in the former museum building at Chequer Road.

Welcome to Rootschat!

Was your Ernest William Woodhead the one born 1904,  married a Mabel Wilson, and was the director of Education in Norwich, Bradford, and other places, and had a daughter H, and son P ?

There are trees at Ancestry saying the man I described died in in 1985, but he did not.

There is a massive obituary for the above described Woodhead in the Kentish Express, 29 Sep 1961, stating he died "last Thursday".

His funeral was in Maidstone, and he was cremated in Charing. No mention on what was done with the ashes.
Tons of info on his life, and several relatives are mentioned.
He had taken a train to London, and fell ill, and died shortly after in Westminster Hospital.
Freebmd shows a death index for him that matches perfectly.

The probate index gives his address, and names his wife Mabel.

A number of downloads for Doncaster area cemeteries and burial registers available on Genfair which will certainly be quicker (and possibly cheaper), than asking the council to search.  If it is a cremation however then there may not be an answer to be found.
