Help with Name on Marriage Entry
« on: Saturday 17 February 24 09:29 GMT (UK) »
Good morning
Anyone able to assist with Father's first name on marriage of Mary Ann McLoughlin to Michael McLarey in 1877 in Limavady, Northern Ireland?
Mary's Father's name - Is it an abbreviation? Tried searching other marriages of McLoughlin's or McLaughlin's around same time in case there was a sibling.
Many thanks
Murphyz

Hi.

I can see the family in the 1901 census and they have a son called Daniel age 6 amongst their 9 children at that time. Looking closer at the image my inclination is that her father was also called Daniel.

Several trees on Ancestry have her father as Edward but I think this is wrong as she was Church of Ireland and that family were Roman Catholic. That birth was in 1853 and she appears to be born 1856/7.

Hope this helps.

Alan

Hi,

The only other thing I can add here is that a witness appears to be Nancy McLoughlin and she looks like a resident of Drumraimer, Limavady in the Northern Ireland Valuation Revision Book 1917-1924 - district of Keady.

I imagine she was Mary Jane's unmarried sister.

It never fails to amaze me how fantastic you all are on roots chat. Big thank you to you all.

She’s Mary Jane (later it’s written as McLaughlin), large family of McLarey’s most of whom went to US. There’s two daughters of Mary & Michael came to Scotland. One of them married in Port Glasgow.

Amazing, thanks

Do you mean Drumramer?
Drumramer townland in Drumachose civil parish. Keady is the Electoral Division.

Hi,

Probably - I was just taking it from Ancestry records, and we all know how unreliable they are sometimes!!

The marriage took place at Limavady, County Londonderry, Ireland not Northern Ireland which didn't come into existence until much later.
