Solomon NEAT, Monkton Farleigh, Hanging 1765
« on: Saturday 17 February 24 22:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to find out more details for this unfortunate chap.

According to the Wiltshire Coroner's Bills, Solomon Neate "hanged himself, lunacy, 10 October 1765" at Monkton Farleigh, Wiltshire.  The Coroner travelled 15 miles and his fee was £1.11s.3d.

There were many Neates/Neats recorded at Monkton but nothing for Solomon who was buried there on 12 October 1765.

I did a newspaper search on FindmyPast but no joy.

Can anyone suggest any lines of enquiry please.

Tks

Do you mean you see no records of a Solomon Neat/e other than that burial?
Or  that you can't identify which of all the mentions of a Solomon Neat/e he is?

Hi

Sorry if I confused you.  I am missing a Solomon Neat and this could possibly be him but I do not have sufficient info at this stage.

I've eliminated other Solomon Neat/Neates that I have found elsewhere. There are a surprising number of them.

As this chap died and was buried at Monkton, I was hoping to find a baptism or marriage.

I tried Wiltshire newspapers on FindmyPast and also the Bath Chronicle - sadly no mention of the hanging.

There is the Solomon Neat baptising children in M.F  up to 1739,  husband of Jane.
Have you accounted for him?

Hi

You raise a good point here as this Sol N looks to be a likely fit.

From the past research I have seen on this family, it appears that he was discounted as a Solomon Neate and wife Jane were found elsewhere after 1765.  I have yet to find this specific information myself but I am checking it out.  Shame there is no age given in the burial record!

Tks for your input.
