George e Webb
« on: Sunday 18 February 24 16:35 GMT (UK) »
I have been trying to find the death record on the commonwealth war graves site with little success.
Hope someone with a fresh pair of eyes might help.
George E Webb born 1881 Croxley Green, Hertfordshire, parents James Webb and Mary Ann Jane Chilton. In 1903 George married Lucy Anne Bees.
On the 11th Aug 1917 George was killed at Flanders France;
"Name George Webb Birth Place Croxley Green, Herts Residence Chislehurst, Kent Death Date 11 Aug 1917 Death Place France and Flanders Enlistment Place Hertford Rank Private Regiment Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Royal Berkshire) Regiment Battalion 6th Battalion Regimental Number 36515 Type of Casualty Killed in action Theatre of War Western European Theatre Comments Formerly 5985, Herts Regt."

Any help would be appreciated

He is there - George Cuthbert Webb  No mention of a wife and he was aged 23!!  BUT he doesn't quite fit with your information, related to age and marriage.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Its the right regiment and details bit not the George I am looking for, George was born in 1881 so I will have to start afresh with the George I am searching. Thank you Bumble at least he did not die in 1917.

George Webb - 5985, Royal West Surrey - is, I think, a completely different person.  His record is available on FindMyPast.  He enlisted in 1899 and was discharged the same year., having served for 121 days.

AH!!!!  I see that FindMyPast have a transcription record from TNA combining the two names and service numbers.  :-\

A complex family, Lucy Ann and George had a son called George Edwin but his birth reg is George Edmond so George's middle name could be either Edwin or Edmond I guess
