Oh my goodness everyone! I'm in absolute shock, I just cannot believe how much you have all managed to find out, you truly are incredible and I'm just overwhelmed that you've all taken the time to help me so much. Honestly, I cannot thank you enough!

It's taken me all day to digest all the information, I'm so excited about it all! And you've triggered some memories I'd totally forgotten about too. But most of all, I loved seeing the information about my Nan, especially the occupation of "Music Hall Artiste", she was a dancer.  She died when I was 14, unfortunately too young to pay good attention to the stories she told me, so I had no way of finding out more about her, and now knowing what I know, I feel somehow closer to her if that makes sense?

I would love to know why she went by "Margaret Elaine" instead of "Margaret Ellen" by the time she married though? Was it common to just change your name as you fancied in those days? And how would I find out when she went up to Glasgow as I remember her having a scotch accent!

Thank you all so so much again! However did you find it all?!

Hello again Charlene. Isn’t it exciting embarking on family history and making all the discoveries.
Sometimes there are details we wish to know, but it may not be possible to find out, and of course it's too late to ask. The use of the name "Elaine" rather than "Ellen", may be one of those things. They are very close in sound and spelling, aren’t they? Maybe she preferred that name, or her mother called her that name and she didn't know any other, Maybe she didn't know how to spell Ellen, or maybe she changed it for work reasons. Lots of possibilities.
As you research her parents more, you might find out about their lives and their movements. This may help you track Margaret Elaine’s movements with more detail. Where are they all in the 1921 census? Look at the electoral rolls also to find where they were living. Who were the witnesses at Margaret Elaine’s wedding? How long did she live in Scotland before moving back to England? Lots of fun exploration for you, to dig deeper into the life of your Nan.
