Diary week ending 25th February

Morning all
Another week gone, time is flying by.

Although it is early it isn't raining  here, had a lot or rain am yesterday and we had a gully if water between  the flower bed and the lawn, that will take time to dry out , pm yesterday was quite bright but we have been very fortunate with the weather, lot of rain like lots of places but it really is quite mild.

Bats, have I mentioned them recently,  they have returned to church much earlier than usual, messy things,  as they are protected we can't do much about them, just cover as much as  possible up out of of service hours.

Hope everyone with health problems are feeling much better, roll on spring and the warmer weather.

Morning all
Dry here this morning though we had some rain last night. I managed to get a bit of tidying and weeding done in the garden yesterday. Loads more to do but I felt better for the tidying.
 LM I can’t imagine what the bat mess is like ! Have seen some in a National Trust project up at Seaton Delaval Hall where the actual hall there’s only the walls etc left so there’s no furniture in that part of the building.

Flash Harry and family here today ,I was all ready and geared up for yesterday ,but grandson phoned and it is today so I had to go shopping for my son and I for tea so got pork chops .
Saw half of church in the Supermarket so explanations given.
Shame as son will be working today so limited time with them.

So much water!
I think instead of getting to the moon, leave the moon alone, we will surely ruin it.
Instead concentrate on getting water to drought areas, it will be difficult but not impossible and will help to save our planet, reduce starvation and give so many people a better life.

A woman had a scheme many years ago ,to plant trees on the edge of the Sahara, as trees attract rainfall ,on the edge of the existing tree line.
More trees from  selfsown  seeds etc would grow and so more rainfall.
Don’t know what became of that ,I don’t think the North African countries bordering The Sahara got involved- what a pity.

So Flash Harry’s visit today.Kyra too of course.

Where does cutlery go. .
I have only four everyday forks left ,so,posh set must come out.
I gave away a full set when I downsized  hence posh set out today ,I also gave Flash Harry his Nanny’s which my grandson then my grand daughter used when eating with us as small children.
But they are at his home now and Kyra uses them.
A present from my daughter’s Godparents in Belgium.
Pastry forks will be OK for Kyra abd FH can manage with full size ones - but- I need to get posh ones out ——
Well must get on,not sure of arrival time so flexible today.

Hope people are alright ,some health worries I know , best wishes for some improvement there.

Cutlery are like socks Viktoria, they have a mind of their own and tend to go walkabout. Table forks are the worst, they vanish into thin air, dessert forks behave and stay where they are supposed to be. I live alone so can’t blame anyone else.

I got so fed up with socks disappearing in the wash, I now do them by hand so they stay in pairs.

Rather dull here today, a contrast to the lovely sunshine yesterday. At least the garden is full of smiling daffodils.

I dislike men's socks, my OH   prefers plain ones, I do wear black socks in the winter but now I have replaced most of mine with a small colour motif, that way they should be in pairs.

I do  have a really nice cutlery set for best,  did have a very good set of everyday ones but when my daughter was in the guides she took 1 set when camping, when she  came back the knife was missing and the guide captain couldn't understand why I wanted  the matching lost one returned, it never did come back .

Viktoria, I am sure you are going  to have a really enjoyable time with your little folk,  don't work to hard.

Candleflame, we cover as much as we can in church to try to keep everything clean,  even brass can be affected  by bat urine,  we have to cover that as well, time consuming, messy  things.

You could either fold them together with their partner or put them in one of those net laundry bags.

We've also suffered from the wandering cutlery syndrome! Main course forks - two vanished years back, as soon as I bought a "posh" full set, one actually came home, from the back porch where somehow it had gone. Never found the other. Tea / coffee spoons never seem to return.
Find the fish knives from our original set really useful for scraping out containers. My mum used to use her bone handled fish knives in the garden!!

Because of my fall before Christmas when I spent a couple of days in hospital I have to go for an echo thingy. This is booked for Wednesday morning at the crack of sparrow. Not only have I had the original booking confirmed by text, I have had two sets of paper work through the Post and another text to remind me.

I had an unexpected letter from the London hospital on Saturday telling me that someone who was in that hospital at the same time has since been diagnosed with TB and the hospital has very kindly booked me an appointment for 12th March at around mid-day to see the specialist TB Nurse. All very efficient but no way am I going all the way iup there for a 10 minute session. And so I rang them just now to see if it could be transferred to our locality. They will ring back later.

Meanwhile I rang our surgery to see about getting this TB matter dealt with and would they facilitate it. I waited for over 35 minutes (we are dealing with a very high load this morning) and when I got through eventually I hardly had time to explain why I was ringing- "....we have changed our procedures you will have to log in to our website and send an e-mail and the doctor will then get back to you"   "But this is an ongoing matter"   "No matter, those are the new procedures" and she hung up.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.........

I had been plodding along with some LPAs ( encouraged by number 1 son). Unfortunately one of them had not been correctly filled in and I was given a time limit to resubmit on a reduced fee. Sadly because of Jane's death other things took priority and I have almost miseed the deadlie , but , following a couple of emails, a very nice gentleman rang just now and said "Yes, your deadline can be extended, just as soon as you can manage. I understand your circumstances"  Well done that man.

Talking of cutlery has reminded me to re-visit a canteen of cutlery I received for 25 years of secretarial service - the inscription is dated 2002    And in it I also found a set of coffee spoons, two sets of children's cutlery plus it reminded me that I still use the set of fish knives and forks from a marriage present in 1964 and a re-handled butter knife from my father's cutlery.
