Lamont House, Coatbridge
« on: Monday 19 February 24 11:42 GMT (UK) »
I am researching John McMaster, who was resident in Lamont House, Coatbridge in 1915.
What was Lamont House, and why would he be resident there? Thanks, Kathy

Newspaper articles refer to Lamont Model Lodging House, Buchanan Street, Coatbridge. The earliest dates from 1906, and they continue into the 1950s

I believe that Model Lodging Houses were a sort of hostel for the homeless. This link will take you to an article about a different one:

I haven't yet found it marked on a map.

Thx Alan
I found John McMaster living there on a war document and wondered if it was a hospital or care home. Will follow up your link.mx⭐️

It was seemingly

there up to the 1960s,behind where the sharks mouth pub is now.
as per an old reply to a similar query on:

If you expand the Lost Glasgow post at https://www.facebook.com/lostglasgowofficial/photos/a.265323076912889/3310187772426389/?type=3 (where it says see more), it details a very informative article on Model Lodging Houses.

That location doesn't fit with its actual address. Where the Shark's Mouth pub is located would be the low numbers of Buchanan Street

In 1952 it was described as a 'municipal lodging house for working men'

The 06 June 1903 edition of the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser, carries a story about the reason for, building of and opening of the lodgings and includes a sketch of the building.
