Phillip Reed and Elizabeth Dorey births/deaths?
« on: Monday 19 February 24 18:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have these two marrying in 1796 in Millbrook, Southampton.
They have children Lydia 1797 (direct ancestor in friend's tree), George 1799, James 1801, John 1806 and Phillip 1811. A few gaps there but I haven't found any other baptisms on ancestry.

What I'm stumped with is getting back any further with Phillip and Elizabeth. Reed is spelled various ways: Reed, Reid, Read.

Thanks for any help 🤞

Two possible baptisms in Millbrook
Philip Read s/o Philip and Sarah bapt 2 Apr 1769
Philip Read s/o Philip and Lydia bapt 12 Jan 1772

Possible that Philip snr was the same person and his wife Sarah died and so did Philip jnr #1 and Lydia was Philip snr's 2nd wife

Burial of a Sarah Read, Millbrook 11 Jul 1769. No age mentioned so not possible to say whether she was Philip's first wife

As the first child of your couple was Lydia, I think that Philip's mother being Lydia is a good possibility

I agree.
Thank you all. That's great 👍
I'll hunt around now for a death of an infant Philip in case Sarah was his first wife.

Bingo!
Philip and Lydia's marriage on family search says he was a widower.
