Hello  ( Mr) Spendlove
and than you so much for finding her!~
Though I have to say I'm shocked  if this is in fact she as I thought she was far older than 12.

It was my friend asking about her -  as he had records of an astounding story of his relative  named Cole - a miller by from a small area in Cornwall  leaving  by ship from Plymouth in 1818  bound for America - that purported sank at sea and he and his pregnant wife had to swim for their lives to get to shore. After which they took a raft(!) initially to Pittsburg and later to Illinois ( again by raft!) 0 and seeming was lived there for the remainder of their lives.

So I will have to ask him but I can not thank you enough for the time you have taken in this matter - as my friend has been looking for this connection for over 2 years now without success!

So thank you once more. I'll pass this on to him immediately.

Paul

Welcome to rootschat

I am a little confused.  You say the relative left Cornwall via Plymouth and the ship sank presumably near to the USA.  What is the connection to Westleigh (Westerleigh), Gloucestershire which is near Bristol :-\

Hello Kearns,

Pleasure to help.

However there a lots of "Mary Cole" who died in 1823, only selected this one because you mention
Westerleigh, Glos.

Do you know what relation she was to the Cole family shipwreck in 1818?  Or who her parents were?
