William Jenkins abt.1873(?) Look Up request
« on: Sunday 25 February 24 16:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Anyone able to look up the following in Newport, Mayo?

William JENKINS possible birth 1873(?) Newport

I have attached a snap shot from the 1911 census - originally assumed he was born in Newport WALES as this is where he is living/died but I noticed census lists him as Irish, & didnt realised until recently there is a 'Newport' in Ireland!

I am sceptical on his year of birth as his age is not clear on 1911 census.  guessing at 1873 as his wife is the same age (38) and I have also located a death for him that lines up with a birth date of 1873 - (It was not a family member that completed the census document but what I assume was the landlady as they are listed as lodgers)

It is also possible that his marriage to Sarah Ann Horton took place in Ireland as I can not locate this either (her birth place is Birmingham, England)

No birth records for William Jenkins in Newport or Westport, Co Mayo between 1864 and 1880. Search via IrishGenealogy.ie

You have not attached an image of the 1911 census (Wales?).

but ones born in Cardiff & Bath are noted as Irish as well. Also, the language spoken as noted in the last column is Ireland.   ::)

I was thinking that the children where still listed as irish due to their father being from ireland - that is the only marriage i can locate but that is after the 1911 census and the birth of all 3 children, could it be possible that they where not actually married until then?

er, yes. On the census entry, there is no number of years noted for the marriage on the line for the wife. Certainly not unknown for couples to appear as 'married' on census when they were not.
