How sure are you of the 1837 birth date and what's your source for this? I ask because there were 2 Elizabeth Graham births registered in the Wigton district in 1838, and we all know that our ancestors could be vague with their ages!

the 1881 census had 1836 as her year of birth.  having her place of birth as blencogo, was where i started.

May be better to review your work so far.

If you start with yourself and work back in a step by step manner you will find evidence I am sure that will sway you one way or the other.  I cannot believe that if you have gone step by step back that you find yourself with two contenders rather finding that someone's child is   say your gggggrandmother or father

Naming patterns is one way.  Others may be patterns of worship, from Church records etc.  if you can go to other sources than Ance$try you might find some info you don't have already.

i cannot find a marriage certificate for them.  i know he is a widow, i also think she has been married before.

Elizabeth Carrick nee Graham is my three times great grandmother.  She was born in Blencogo in 1837.  I know this is classed as Bromfield, Wigton.

The only information I have is what I can get from Ancestry.  I have managed to narrow it down to two births.

Is this your Elizabeth on 1871 and 1881 census?

Dean Street, Linthorpe, Stockton, Yorkshire,
Edward   Carrick   Head    1839   Blacksmith   Mugton, Cumberland
Elizabeth   Carrick   Wife   1837   Mugton, Cumberland
Hannah G   Carrick   Daughter   1859    Carlisle, Cumberland
Edward   Carrick   Son   1860    Wigtown, Cumberland
Charles Carrick Son 1860 Wigton, Cumberland >recorded as Charles but should name be Charlotte ???
Thomas   Carrick   Son 1865 Wigton, Cumberland
Mary J   Carrick   Daughter   1869   Wigton, Cumberland
William   Carrick   Son   1871    Middlesbro, Yorkshire

Is this daughter Hannah’s birth entry, can’t see a birth registered with surname Carrick for Hannah G

GRAHAM, HANNAH       -
GRO Reference: 1861  J Quarter in WIGTON  Volume 10B  Page 462

6, Reeds Lane, Wigton, Cumberland
Edward   Carrick   Head   Married   1838   Blacksmith & whitesmith   Wigton, Cumberland
Elizabeth   Carrick   Wife   Married   1836   Baker   Blencogo, Cumberland
Mary J   Carrick   Daughter   1869   Wigtown , Cumberland
John Thomas   Carrick   Son   1873   Dalston, Cumberland
Joseph   Carrick   Son   1874   Dalston, Cumberland
Mary Eliz   Carrick   Daughter   1877   Dalston, Cumberland
Hannah Graham Visitor Single 1847   Housekeeper (d s) Wigton, Cumberland

Did they marry have not found a marriage entry  :-\
Do you know if or where they married? A marriage certificate hopefully would confirm her fathers name

This looks to be Edward Carrick on 1861 census married to Mary

Station Hill, Wigton, Cumberland
Edward   Carrick   Head   Married 1838   Blacksmith   Wigton, Cumberland
Mary   Carrick   Wife   Married   1838   Blacksmith wife   Wigton, Cumberland
Edward   Carrick   Son   1860   Wigton, Cumberland
Charlotte   Carrick   Daughter   1860   Wigton

GRO indexes shows mmn Pearson for Edward & Charlotte
added - Carrick/Pearson marriage entry Mar 1859 Wigton, 1862 death Mary Carrick age 24

all that you have listed there is right.  the daughter Hannah G does not appear on the census with Edward but i cannot find Elizabeth on the 1861 census.  i reckon this is her second marriage.

This could be your Elizabeth Graham on the 1861 census in the household of the Glaisters' - Elizabeth is single

Elizabeth Graham
Relation   Servant
Estimated Birth Year   1837
Where born Bromfield, Cumberland
Piece   3926
Folio   52
Page number   1

and this looks to be her baptism

Elizabeth Graham Baptism 16 Apr 1837 Bromfield, Cumberland
Father George Graham Mother   Hannah

There is an Elizabeth GRAHAM age 22 who married a Jospeh BELL in 1860 Wigton
Elizabeth BELL can be found on the 1861/71/81 censuses and she is living with her parents John & Mary GRAHAM in 1861

at the moment i am looking at Hannah G.  i am assuming she is from a previous marriage.

Hannah G Carrick is probably the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Graham and below is her possible birth entry previously posted, the only way to know for sure would be by purchasing her b/c to see who is named as her mother - a digital image from GRO indexes cost £2.50

GRAHAM, HANNAH       -
GRO Reference: 1861  J Quarter in WIGTON  Volume 10B  Page 462

Your Elizabeth Graham born 1837 Wigton is with her parents George and Hannah GRAHAM in the 1841 and 1851 census. The youngest children from the family who appear in the 1851 census have their births registered with mother’s maiden name as WOOD

Elizabeth Carrick’s younger sister, Hannah Graham, is visiting her in the 1881 census.

On the 1861 census at her parents house, there is a Hannah Patterson aged two.
I have thought Elizabeth may have been married before.  The one who married a Joseph Bell kept coming up until I changed her birth details to Bromfield and the parents George and Hannah appeared.  Too much of a coincidence?  I agree that is Elizabeth in the 1861 census in Waverton.  Hannah is not with her mother, so where is she?
