Indian acrobats active all over England, parts of Ireland and France, which I was able to trace using various newspaper sites
Rajub, Moulah bux and Sumjoo are the main names.
Sumjoo is the main one I'm interested in (there was another person researching his family on here, but that was in 2007)
Tight rope walker, born about 1849 Bombay, India
Marries an Elvina Hall/boxhall 1870 Portsea, Hampshire. Using the name John Sumjoo. Seems to have been a bit of a big deal there's a newspaper article on it
1871 Census hampshire
Living with Inlaws
Professor J Hall Boxall, head, mar, 50, chiropodist, India
Eliza do., wife, mar, 44, Warwick Birmingham -
John SumJoo, son in law, mar, 22, gymnast, India
Roger Boxall, son, unm, 20, do., do. - I think this is actually Rajub
Angelina Boxall, daur, mar, 23, dress maker, Portsmouth Hants -Daughter in law
Eliza Hall, daur, mar, 18, actress, London Middlesex
Elvina Sumjoo, daur, mar, 17, do, Bristol Glo'ster
Nelly Boxall, grdaur, 2, Portsmouth Hants - Angelina's Daughter
Elvina Eliza Sumjoo, 2mo, Portsmouth - Sumjoo and Elvina's daughter
they had 3 other children
Margaret Sumjoo Registered and baptismal name Bagette mina Roger 1875
John Sumjoo 1873 -1874
Eugine Sumjoo 1883 -1900, This one is a bit of an issue as Elvina is a widow in the 1881 census.
Now where on earth would I even look for a death record or even a real name for Sumjoo. The last trace I can find is John Sumjoo's birth and a news paper article about Sumjoo and Rajub touring France in 1872 or anything on this person
Oh and the hall/boxall side of things is a huge mess, but that's a post for another day
