Let’s start again

Your fathers birth cert just shows his mothers name & address etc so you don’t know her age/birthplace or parent’s names etc as that type of info would not be recorded on his birth cert.

Basically - that’s it.  Unless there is any other documented info about her that we are not aware of.  If your father was 5 yrs old when he went into care unless he had any later contact with his mother it’s unlikely he would have any relevant info about her

DNA is probably your best option

Looking at Scottish births for a Mary Lodge, going by your Dad's 1930 birth year, there are only two possible births showing for a Mary Lodge. The one mentioned born in 1903 and one more, Mary Jane Gavin Lodge born 1909 (mother's maiden name of Gavin), also in Port Glasgow. The rest are too old or too young.

The address for Mary Lodge in 1930 showing on your Dad's birth reg, 13 Overgate in Dundee. Looking at the Valuation Rolls of that time, the address is very likely a tenement building with multiple tenants. Mary Lodge could have been boarding/ lodging there at the time maybe.

3 and one more, Mary Jane Gavin Lodge born 1909 (mother's maiden name of Gavin), also in Port Glasgow.
Mary Jane Gavin Lodge married in 1929 Port Glasgow to John McGhee, which was why I don't think she is a possible mother to Thomas born 1930

Ah, missed that bit! Yes, that would likely rule her out.

Just in the realms of possibility
McAllister in its various spellings is often found in Northern Ireland. Port Glasgow was a popular destination for Northern Ireland residents embarking on a new life.

Before looking at this though you need to have all the building blocks sorted from you through to as far back as you can go in Scotland.  Once you are there the above scenario may, or may not, play out.

Have looked further into the family and this Mary Jane Lodge born 1909 was half-sister to your Mary McAllister Lodge.

Children of Thomas Lodge and Catherine/ Kate McNeill (married 1898):
•   Maggie 1895 (born before marriage - daughter of Catherine?)
•   Elizabeth Lodge 1898
•   Thomas Lodge 1900
•   Mary McAllister Lodge born Dec 1902 Port Glasgow

Catherine Lodge (nee McNeill) died 1906 Port Glasgow. ** (see added below)
Once you have her marriage certificate you will get her parents' names. This should lead to her parents' Scottish death certificates, to census records, and possibly to Irish records. (If we can help - just ask.)

Thomas Lodge 2nd marriage 1909 Port Glasgow to Bridget GIRVAN

1911 census Port Glasgow - Lodge family
•   Thomas Lodge 36
•   Bridget Lodge 31 (2nd wife)
•   Lizabeth Lodge 13 (child of Catherine McNeill)
•   Mary Lodge 8 (child of Catherine McNeill)
•   Mary Jane Lodge 2 (child of Bridget Girvan)
•   Patrick Lodge 0 child of Bridget Girvan)

Lodge Family - 1921 census Port Glasgow   ref 574/ 14/ 26
•   Thomas Lodge 48
•   Bridget Lodge 43
•   Mary Lodge 18
•   Jane Lodge (Mary Jane) 12
•   Patrick Lodge 10
•   David Lodge 8

**ADDED
On her death 1906 - Catherine’s Lodge’s mother maiden name shows as McIlheron.

Possible death-
Catherine McIherin / McNeill / Cameron died in Gourock in 1911, age 69 (so if the informant has remembered correctly, she had 2 marriages – to Cameron and to McNeill).    Her mother’s maiden name was Blaney
