Just thought that I'd give you a bit of an update and thank you all for your help and pointing me in the right direction and getting me back on track.
I have located Thomas and traced him from his birth in Newcastle right through to his death in West Ham in 1939
I have also managed to locate his parents, James and Jane (nee Turpin) and traced that line from James' birth in Gateshead to his death in Poplar in 1911. That then took me to his parents Thomas and Jane Henderson. Thomas was born in Warkworth, Northumberland and was a shipwright. Traced him right through to his death in 1874.
Just now looking for a marriage to Jane and I've found his parents as James and Mary (nee Ray/Wray) Henderson. Jane was born in Newcastle and Ancestry trees have her as either Jane Vardy or Armstrong. I've ruled out Armstrong but can't find a Vardy either.
