I would be greatfull if anybody could help me .please.   
I have a ancestor called Thomas lindop b 1879 who was a coal hewer , it says sterig and tye colliery.
Any ideas where this collery was in Lancashire.

What is “it” & whereabouts in Lancashire did he live?

He was living in Staffordshire, not Lancashire.   The next column after his employers name showed where he was working

Adderley Green colliery, Longton. Stirrup and Pye. William Hulse manager. On the death of Thomas Pye in 1855 his nephew Joseph Hulse 1818-1891, formerly a school teacher and later a bookmaker, became the owner of the Adderley Green Colliery.
