Dennis John Richard Howell
« on: Thursday 29 February 24 17:06 GMT (UK) »
A friend is trying to find any descendants of Dennis John Richard Howell, born in 1916 at Coventry, he was killed aged 27, in 1944, when a Lancaster Bomber and a Blenheim Bomber collided in mid air, at Welby near Grantham Lincolnshire.....we think he had a sister who married in Leicester, and possibly had children born there.....does this mean anything to anyone ?......EDIT....I should add, I am not looking for living people, just some background information.....Thanks....

Is the friend related to the family?

You can check Free BMD https://www.freebmd.org.uk/
There are births and marriages there for siblings and then you could look for any children from those marriages.

If you have access to Ancestry, there is a published tree (owner has been online recently).
It looks as though one sister emigrated to Canada.

Thank You......the friend is not related, but is hoping to place a plaque at the spot where one of the 'planes came down, and we wondered if any of the descendants would be interested in the history of the crash....

The tree I mentioned has reference to the circumstances so perhaps they would be interested.

Yes, I can now see the tree, on Ancestry........she went to Canada in 1948, but must have returned at some point, as she died in Leicester in 2004.......

His sister, Ivy, is on the Electoral Register for 2002-3 in Syston.

There is an account of the crash in The Rugby Advertiser on 13th October 1944.

It mentions that he and his wife made their home in Leicester.

Also, the followers of his coffin, which include his wife, in-laws and sisters.

Yes I saw Ivy’s death too. I saw the emigration and thought there may still be descendants who stayed in Canada.
I don’t see any children for Dennis so you will have to search for marriages for his sisters and then any children there.

Thank You, I see that when Ivy and her husband went to Canada, in 1948, their son was given as being 10 1/2 years old.......I wonder if he, and possibly the husband stayed there, and Ivy returned to England ?......that would account for not being able to find anything on them......
