Murcar
« on: Thursday 29 February 24 17:09 GMT (UK) »
So I am playing about on Scotlands People wondering about my Great Grandmother’s surname wondering how many Murcars are still about.

I looked at the 1911 census and it only comes up with 6.only two them male.

I looked at deaths between 1911 and 1921 and there was five possibly two who were born after 1911.

I looked at births between 1911 and 1921 and there are 7 or 8 (one possibly a duplicate.

So I was expecting on the 1921 census to be perhaps around ten Murcars, but no there are 26 with 22 of them over 10. Where were they hiding in 1911?

Not very scientific research just intrigued me and thought I would share.

On SP 1911 census click "fuzzy matching" under surname and type murcar.

The missing names are under Marcar.

Hi, alternatively try Mur*r wildcard on Scotlands People, the early records of the name seem quite variable.
Nicoll, Small - Scotland Dennis - Lincolnshire, Baldwin - Notts. Gordon, Fletcher Deeside
