Westminster Marriage 1820
« on: Saturday 02 March 24 14:29 GMT (UK) »
I`m hoping to find more about John Hall and Emily Merrington who married in St George`s church,Hanover Square, Westminster 12/6/1820.
I found this marriage years ago in the Ancestry London marriages but am not currently subscribed.  Later information indicates that John was about 31 but Emily would have only been about 15.  I can`t remember if the marriage record actually gave their ages. Can anyone help?

I am intrigued by John. By 1834 he was in Great Barr Staffordshire and described as "gent".  He died aged 55 in Great Barr 1844 .  Again he is described as Gentleman but I haven`t been able to find anything else about him.  As far as I can see he didn`t leave a Will.
I do know more about Emily including her death at their daughter`s home in 1869.

Any help would be much appreciated

No ages I'm afraid but one of the witnesses was William Merrington and it does say "both of this parish"

Do you have them on the 1841 census?
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

If William was her father there is a baptism for an Emily 11 Jul 1804 Westminster.

When was their daughter born?

Thankyou
Their daughter Jane was born in about 1822 London, Middlesex (going on information in census records - I haven`t found a baptism)
I have John, Emily and Jane on the 1841 Census living in Great Barr,(Aldridge)  Staffordshire where John is listed as a farmer and they have 4 servants.
Strangely enough when he died in 1844 one of those servants registered his death (rather than his wife)

As far as I can see he didn`t leave a Will.

According to the legacy-duty index, a grant of administration for John’s estate was made in 1844 to Emily Hall of Great Barr, implying that John did not leave a valid will.

There is a Jane baptised 22 July 1825 with parents John & Emily Hall of 14 York Buildings New Road but this John is a dealer so don't know if the same family.

Thanks Millipede.  I had already seen that but wasn`t sure.  It doesn`t help that it is such a common name!
