Where were they transported to?
« on: Saturday 02 March 24 17:51 GMT (UK) »
Circuit Intelligence, Inverness: Anne Burgess, daughter of Alexander Burgess, late residing in Grantown, was, upon her own confession, found guilty of stealing a pocket book containing a number of bank notes etc. The father also confessed his having resetted the pocket book and notes, and they were both sentenced to transportation for life. [Aberdeen Journal, 14 May 1790]

Am I right in thinking that in 1790 the most likely place where this father and daughter would have been transported to would have been Botany Bay?

Ann Burgess, convicted Inverness, transported on “Royal Admiral” arriving NSW in October 1792.

I didn’t find any convict records for her father Alexander.

Ah, thank you.

Where do you access the records of transported convicts?

For NSW? - NSW archives, but also available on Ancestry etc.

I had a quick look, but there doesn’t seem to be much for Ann Burgess.

Doesn't add to what you have been advised.

Her sentence was "life" (not 99 years as suggested on that site).

They are both (Alexander and Anne) listed as arriving in 1792 on a NSW muster roll - arriving on the Pitt, convicted 12 April 1790. (image on Ancestry, "Scottish Persons that came by the Pitt and other ships prior to the arrival of the Surprise in November")

Maddy, I can see the document you are referring to, but cannot see either of them on the Pitt. (still looking)
The "Pitt" arrived directly before the "Royal Admiral", so they may have come on different ships.
