Mystery Marriage
« on: Tuesday 05 March 24 14:24 GMT (UK) »

I have a side-shoot with a marriage of 15 October 1784 in Milton Keynes.  Groom John Curtis Savage, bride Mary Sear.  Now I'm taking a fresh look I can't actually find the marriage anywhere - not Ancestry or FindMyPast although many Ancestry trees show the same, unproven, couple and date.

FindMyPast also uses the Bucks Marriage Index and has a John and Mary marrying in that place with that date but the surnames are a bit odd suggesting transcription errors.  As I can't see the originals, only the online indexes I can't sort this out.  Any help or ideas greatfully received.

Asked Bucks Archives to check the Bucks Marriage Index entry against the original and had it confirmed that my theory was correct and the BMI version was a transcription error - thank goodness.  As far as I can see Buckinghamshire PRs aren't viewable online so we have to rely on the several different transcriptions that are available via FindMyPast and Ancestry.  One mystery solved.
