How can I find a man in Wimbledon 1950-60s
« on: Tuesday 05 March 24 23:48 GMT (UK) »
How can I find Tom Gundy in Wimbledon during the 1940s -1960s. I've tried the electoral register but can't find him or his wife Sophie. Where am I going wrong? Or could my information about the area be wrong?

I think a little more information on this couple would be helpful. Do you have dates of birth, marriage and death? If yes please could you post them. However if they are still living maybe post years of birth and marriage only.

I’ve been having a good look but with no success. I did find a Thomas and Sophia L Gundy in the 1966 Electoral Roll in Glamorganshire!

The only two other sources I can suggest for that period are: a general newspaper search on each name for both husband and wife, and check the British telephone books 1880-1985 catalogue on Ancestry using his name.

You are all correct, except that they were in Wimbledon in 1940s through to 1962 when they move to a village near Swansea.  I've tried everything I can think of via ancestry and can find absolutely nothing about them during that time frame.  I'm beginning to think they used false names.

Where have you located online registers for Wimbledon for that period  :-\

I can see from freebmd that there were some Gundy families in North East Surrey reg dist for that period but no evidence that they were in Wimbledon.

There are some entries for a T Gundy in the correct time frame in Wimbledon in the British Phone Books 1880 - 1984. Ancestry
Hard to know if its Tom , but maybe an address could ring a bell?
