Janet R Mackie
« on: Wednesday 06 March 24 14:24 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find info about Janet R. Mackie born Feb/March 1921 in East Ham London. Her father was Robert R Mackie, b 1882 Port Glasgow and her mother was Agnes, nee Galway, b 1885 Belfast.
Robert won the Military Medal in WW1 and died in 1932 Port Glasgow.
His middle name (and Janet's) was Rodger, which was his mother's maiden name.
The only trace I can find of Janet is on the 1921 census.

Hi and welcome to rootschat do you have the exact date of birth for Janet Rodger Mackie ?

On the mothers probate record 1962 Hertfordshire who died 30 March 1962 it mentions daughter Janet Rodger Adair ? single woman and Margaret McDowell Holmes wife of
Stanley Thomas Holmes

Not sure where the Adair name comes from unless Janet married an Adair

I found this marriage 1969 Watford Hertefordshire
Janet R Adair
John E Crowley

There is a death 2002  Milton Keynes Buckinghamshire
Janet Rodger Crowley
Age 81
Birth date 3 March 1921

If you have access to Ancestry there is a photo of Janet with her mother Agnes Galway

Thank you Rosie for all your info - lots for me to look at here. I don't have Janet's exact dob (although I know how to use the GRO to find it) I do know that on the 1921 census, which was taken on June 19th, she is recorded as 3 and a half months - which puts her dob around the beginning of March. I am using Ancestry etc in the Library which may be a bit more limited. Wondering how you got to the mothers probate info in 1962? Clearly need to up my game with my research skills!

I can't see where the Adair surname comes from either.  I guess the 1969 marriage would confirm her marital status.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Thank you again for your help, you have given me lots to get going with. Joined Ancestry this afternoon and realised I can get more info than the library version. I have looked at the family trees which are out there and might have the answers I was looking for - but I realise the facts need to be checked.
What a fantastic forum this has turned out to be - it was the librarian who recommended it as I had reached a dead end and you guys have pointed me in the right direction.

That's good you got some of the answers you were looking for and you are right in checking all the facts ..You might want to check the electoral roll records in Finchley Middlesex .I came across a record for a Janet R Adair and a Josias J Adair they are on a few records .Then Josias  J Adair married a Doris Reeves 1961 Luton Bedfordshire this Josias Adair dies in Belfast 2018 .Don't see a marriage for Janet Rodger Mackie to Josias who was a few years younger .As suggested getting the marriage for Janet R Mackie 1969 Watford will let you know if she had been previously married .
