First son William Evelyn 1877         - possibly named for Rowland's father
Rowland’s father was John,  according to death certificate.
Yeah this is the unknown at the moment but there are a few leads here. cheers

According to his obit, he was buried in the Presbyterian section of the cemetery. Was he from Scotland?

Just in case they followed naming patterns AMENDED

First daughter Edith Sarah Ann 1876
First son William Evelyn 1877         - possibly named for Rowland's grandfather
second son John Alexander 1880  - possibly named for Rowland's father and Elizabeth's.
second daughter Florence Christina 1882
third son Roland Robert 1883    - given his father's name
4th son James  1885

Ancestry hints give Elizabeth Armstrong's father possibly as  Alexander Armstrong and wife Christina nee Groat. Originally  from Scotland 1861 census England where Alexander is an assistant Prison Warden  at Portland Prison Dorset.

Yes correct Rowland by all accounts used to work for Alexander in a launch business after Alex retired from being a warden. He married Alexs daughter Elizabeth!

Have you considered getting his death certificate?  Am I right in thinking that parents are named on Australian death certificates?

Yes will be looking at getting copies of marriage and death certs.

Also trying to find if its possible to get a copy of the Householders Census card for 1911 at 4 Canning Rd in Fremantle as this may help solve another mystery!

Link: https://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/mf/2112.0

Yes I found that site ... very interesting but need a few specifics, I believe records are made public after 99 yrs so hopefully thats an avenue worth looking into!

Rowland Robert Wood
Born 1848 (somewhere)
Died Feb 1913 Fremanlte WA
I have most of his history except where he came from. He worked in Albany in late 1800,s, a prospector in the goldfields and then a Boarding house owner in Fremanlte in the early 1900,s at 4 Canning road (Plympton).
Trying to find where he came from before arriving in Australia. Also trying to find if its possible to get a copy of the Householders Census card for 1911 at 4 Canning Rd in Fremantle as this may help solve another mystery!
thanks
Some helpfull info here.. thanks!

I did find somewhere but lost it now that he may have arrived in Albany after travelling from Tasmania. Could it be he was a Whaler in Tasmania and went to Albany for more work as Albany was a rich whaling ground?
