Simple way to create new email just to access new Ancestry account
« on: Friday 08 March 24 11:24 GMT (UK) »
Grateful for some help:

I don’t subscribe to Ancestry but now decided to try it using the excellent offer signposted by Sandra on RC.

However when I entered my email the system said this email already has an account, and takes me to an account my brother previously set up but now cancelled. He had added me as a guest.

I’m baffled as to why I can’t set up a new account with my regular email so wondered if I could create a new email solely to access Ancestry which has a number of advantages.

Very interested to find out what everyone thinks would be the best, simplest and trouble free email system to set up.

Many thanks.

Use a free email account.
I personally use a GMX account - totally free!
Have had a GMX account for more than 10 years.

Gmail is  popular. I've got a few accounts with them.

+1 for Gmail.

My own Gmail account is pretty anonymous and it is all I use for websites, but I do use different passwords on different website and I do make a note of each them in a physical Address Book.

Is there some reason you don't want to use the existing account?  Because when your brother set you up as a guest, that means a guest account will have been created for you.  You won't be able to set it up again, and even if your brother deleted his own account (as opposed to cancelled his subscription) it shouldn't affect your account, which belongs to you.  Try to sign in to it, if you can't remember your password there will be a "forgot password" link.  Once signed in, use Sandra's link.

You can have more than one tree per account.  I don't know if there is a limit but many people have dozens if not hundreds.

best wishes
Jane :-)

One thing to bear in mind is that if you have Guest access to an Ancestry tree it is view only.

There is also Contributor and Editor access modes.

If your Brother still has the same eMail address you could get him to change your access privilege to Editor, then you can access the tree.

Or he can create a Gedcom and you can load that into your account.
