Looking for a Grave
« on: Friday 08 March 24 21:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to locate the grave of Oliver Augustus George Canton.  I have found the parish records which show he was buried in the parish of New Shoreham on 7th November 1901 and I would like to find his grave if possible, but have no idea where to look!

Any help finding his grave would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

He died on 3rd Nov & Administration with will was granted 19th Dec

The actual burial record is online but the page only says Burials in New Shoreham & doesn't name an actual location for the cemetary etc

The Anglican church at New Shoreham is St Mary de Haura.
That of Old Shoreham is St Nicholas, Shoreham-by-Sea.

Thank you for your reply.

I've checked both on Find a Grave and no luck, but I suspect not all graves are transcribed or possibly he was in an unmarked.

Unfortunately, I'm not local but hopefully one day I can take a trip to East Sussex and have a look for myself.

Thank you again for your help.

The Church has a website:  http://www.stmarydehaura.org.uk/about-us/#our-church and there is an official in charge of parish administration.  An email might secure an answer to burial place.
