Burials in the parish of Hope in Flintshire
« on: Saturday 09 March 24 13:11 GMT (UK) »
How can I find which cemetery someone is buried in please.

I am looking for the graves of 2 brothers. The burials were in the parish of Hope. They were baptised in Treuddyn parish if that info is of any use?

John Griffiths abode Ruabon aged 54 buried 15 October 1861
Edward Griffiths abode Wrexham aged 49 buried 9 Dec 1859

Many thanks in advance

There's no notation in the margin of the entries so, from what I can tell, it would be either  St. Cynfarch Churchyard or Hope Old Church Yard. Old Hope was opened in the 1860s so it is most likely to be St. Cynfarch  Churchyard.

I would say that they are buried in the churchyard.  Genuki does not show a cemetery in Hope until 1860's

The vicar of the parish  is listed in the 1861 as Jeremiah Williams age 40 - Vicar of Hope - Living at the Vicarage, Harwarden Road, Hope.  Added - next door to the church https://maps.nls.uk/view/102181972#zoom=5&lat=2970&lon=1684&layers=BT

On the burial record for Edward Griffiths - J Williams Vicar is listed as performing the burial service

The ref that I gave in my Reply #1 gives the details for inquiries. There's nothing mentioned on FindaGrave.

This map from 1872 shows a graveyard and burial ground in Hope.

The Shrewsbury Chronicle Friday December 9, 1859

Wrexham
Death of Mr. Edward Griffiths, Auctioneer.
Paraphrasing. Took place Tuesday morning after painful illness lasting several months. Active in Public Affairs - about 6 months ago received a handsome testimonial.

If this is the correct person it does not mention a burial place
