What are these words?
« on: Sunday 10 March 24 13:35 GMT (UK) »
I attach a burial record for George Larkin "murdered by unknown person" in 1751 but can anyone please decipher the last words in the record.  The same words seem to appear for several records below George's but  not in every case.

Thank you!

It's an abbreviation to say an affidavit has been made.

In order to encourage the wool trade, Acts of 1666 and 1678 laid down
that deceased persons had to be buried wrapped only in wool and a
relative had to make an affadavit before a justice or clergyman within 8
days of the funeral affirming that the law had been complied with. This
was repealed in 1814 but was barely being executed by then.

Wow!  Thank you.  I had thought it might be an abbreviation of 'affidavit' but couldn't think why so your explanation is enlightening.  The cousin who found this record thought it was an abbreviation for "officiated" but I wasn't sure and knew this forum would know!

So, thanks again .................
