William John Caughey Carrickfergus 1910
« on: Sunday 10 March 24 20:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am trying to tie in William John Caughey from Carrick into my family tree apparently via DNA testing he could actually be the father of my Grandfather as I have found McCunes from Carrick on my fathers side via DNA testing.
My Grandfather Samuel Shields Wallace was the illegitimate son of Isabella Shields of Lancasterian St Carrick I have exhausted everything I can trying to find anything else out about Samuel Shields but the DNA link of the McCunes of Carrick ties William John into being my relative.
Interested in the Wallace’s from Ballymena and the Shields from Carrickfergus.

What is the significance of 1910?  Is it a birthyear or something else?

No birthyear given for Samuel but if he was the illegitimate son of Isabella Shields - where does his Wallace surname come from?

A tree on Ancestry has him b 1917 Donegal?

Your post is confusing. You have the names Shields, Wallace, Caughey and McCune and the year 1910 but no real links.

Here is the birth of Samuel Shiels, I think.

Is this then the Wallace connection? It is the marriage of Isabella Shields and Robert Wallace.

Hi sorry for the confusion, I had a fellow member that shares the McCune DNA with me said Caughey was also her Gt grandfather and his wife died that’s the date 1910 but he remarried apparently in 1918 so there was a gap where he wasn’t married and Samuel Shields was born in 1914 as Shiels
Isabella she lived in Lancasterian St, he lived just up the road, but I have never found out Samuels real father my Gt grandfather that would be.
Robert Wallace was Samuels step father, Isabella married Robert in 1916 he died in the war Aug 17, she died a year later of Spanish flu, her mother died 1921 when Samuel was 7 yrs old in Lancasterian st, and also I have no idea who looked after him.
Interested in the Wallace’s from Ballymena and the Shields from Carrickfergus.

From a published tree, there is this person. It details the two marriages.
William John Cahey b 1882 mmn McClune

I think William has siblings.
