Help needed with Ancestry subscription
« on: Sunday 10 March 24 20:52 GMT (UK) »
I have used Ancestry before and I am a member although my subscription has lapsed. I was thinking of joining again and thought that a 12 month sub would be better value than a 6 month one. However on the subcriptions page the maximum shown is 6 months.
Research on line (although strangely not shown the Ancestry site itself) showed that that gift memberships can be bought for 12 months via various on line offers from newspapers eg, The Sun.
But it seems that this has to be bought someone else but if they do and buy it for me does it mean I can continue using my old account or do I have to open a new one?
Any advice would be welcome.

If the links do not work ring Ancestry.

I got Worldwide for £89.99 for 12 months.

Standard is often at £59.99 for 12 months.

Just for future reference, if you click the subscribe button on the top of the website you will only be offered 1 or 6 month subscriptions.

To purchase the full 12 month subs for all membership plans (if you dont use the aforementioned discount link) you need to go to your 'Account Settings' and can then scroll down and all 1, 6 and 12 month subscriptions can be purchased from there.

What I have done for the last few years is the following:-

Within the Account section of Ancestry I turn off the Auto renewal option, it is a convoluted process which is not concluded until I receive an eMail from Ancestry confirming the opting out of Auto Renewal.

A few days before the end date of the subscription I create Gedcoms of all the trees and download them

I then Tree Share all the trees with the Roots Magic project trees, error check each and Tree Share each back again to Ancestry

Then I sync each of the Ancestry trees to Family Tree Maker.

I then do not use Ancestry a day before the end date or two days after.

Then I try the links or ring them.
