NEALE and GOODCHILD families of White Waltham
« on: Tuesday 12 March 24 22:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello there,

Thomas Neale and Eliza Goodchild were married in 1799 at White Waltham, Berkshire.

I know they had a daughter, Lucy, born in 1818.

Any assistance to find supporting records of:
    -  other children of Thomas and Eliza
    -  death/buriel records of Thomas and Eliza
    -  parent records of Thomas and Eliza.

I contacted the parish at White Waltham and they informed me that all their records were in the Berkshire Records Office.

I am in Australia, so if anyone is going to the office to visit and can spare a little more time to try to find anything on the NEAlE and GOODCHILD family of White Waltham I would be very appreciative.

Thank you for your time.

AB

Yes I have checked Family Search, and only found the marriage record of Thomas and Eliza.

Nothing else.

Thank you, AB

Many public trees on Ancestry say daughter Lucy was born in Buckinghamshire (the 1839 immigration record does look like "Buck shire" to me, though it could be "Berkshire"). For anyone else looking - father Thomas NEALE is described as a sawyer on this record.

Have you found Lucy's baptism?

In the 1841 census for White Waltham I can only see a William NEALE (60, ag lab), and a Mary NEALE (45) with presumably children William (13) and Elizabeth (11) at Littlewick Green.

There is a report of a Thomas NEALE committed to the County Gaol for housebreaking at White Waltham in 1832.
Saturday,  Feb. 11, 1832
Publication: Berkshire Chronicle

Will try to find some more details.

"Thomas Neale, aged 29, sawyer, charged with having, on the night of the 28th January, broken and entered the dwelling- house of Thomas Wells, at White Waltham, and stolen therefrom seven quarts of beer."
Monday,  Feb. 20, 1832
Publication: Reading Mercury

So not Lucy's father, but coincidnece of names, occupation and location, could be another son? Would need to do more research.

Hi,
This is only a small point but;
Willam Barefoot & Lucy Goodchild were married in Hurley - St.Mary an adjacent parish to White Waltham, Shottesbrooke & Waltham St.Lawrence - per the records from the Berks FHS.
