Trying to find more information - Joseph Muir 1910 Glasgow
« on: Wednesday 13 March 24 01:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone 👋

I am on a mission to help my mother find more information on Mums birth father and hopefully a photo as Mum has never seen him.
Joseph Muir came to New Zealand in 1951-1952 and then was deported back to Glasgow Scotland about 1956-1957.
On Mum’s birth certificate, his name is Joseph Muir Miller, born 1910, occupation Moulder. Mum recently did a DNA test which has helped us find a bit more info out about this mystery man, but we are still unsure as to what happened to him, why did he come to New Zealand? and if he was even deported back to Scotland or perhaps somewhere else?
Some facts we have recently found out about him are, his Mother was Mary Boyd born 1888.
Joseph Muir was a motor bus conductor living at 135 Paisley Road West, Glasgow in 1930. Married at St Mirin’s Cathedral, Paisley, Renfrewshire to Jeanie Adam’s born 1912, who was also a motor bus conductress in Paisley.
In 1939 he was a taxi driver.
They had 5 children together and were divorced in 1960 and his address was unknown at this time.
We would like to know what happened to him and any other information anyone might have.

Many thanks

Hello  :)

I can see on Scotland's People Index:
BIRTH:  Joseph Muir Boyd, registered 1910, Pollockshields
MARRIAGE: Joseph Muir BOYD or Joseph MUIR, married Jeanie ADAMS 1930, Paisley

I also see him in 1911 Scotland  Census in Pollokshields. He had a sister Mary Muir Boyd, who was born in England (looks like in Bradford Yorkshire).  Then I'm pretty sure they're in the 1921 Scotland Census still in Pollokshields as MUIR, and that mother Mary married a Patrick McGinty in 1915, and had a son James McGinty in 1918.   Do you have all of this?

Sometimes lateral searching can help - for example, find what you can about his siblings and his children & descendants to the modern day - find living relatives who may know more of what became of him?

Did his children with Jeanie carry the name MUIR or BOYD?

Also wondering, do you already know where the MUIR name came from (grandparents?) , it could well be the surname of the his birth father.

It's rather a hard search when he could use MUIR or BOYD, and used MILLER (MILLAR) in NZ. Where did the information come from about his arrival dates in NZ and supposed deportation dates?

Lots of questions, sorry! But might help jangle some clues out  ;D

Cheers

Was he Joseph Muir - Joseph Muir Boyd or Joseph Muir Miller??

Did your mothers DNA match to one of the descendants from the Ginty marriage or from the Muir/Adams marriage - or both?
