Registration District for Llandore, Morriston, Gorseinon and/or Treboeth
« on: Wednesday 13 March 24 09:10 GMT (UK) »
I have been trying to find the birth record for my great grandfather John Thomas for many years and I have no idea of his mother's maiden name. I have just seen the 1921 Census on FindMyPast and it states that he was born in Treboeth and he was 60 years and 8 months old at the time - the census date was 19 June 1921. I think that implies that his birth should have been registered in the 4th quarter 1860. There are varying claims in different census for his place of birth namely Llandore, Morriston, Gorseinon and Treboeth but I thought these would all be in the Swansea registration district. On checking the GRO, there was no birth record for a John Thomas in Swansea in the 4th quarter. There were however 6 records in the first quarter 1861. Can anyone please confirm that Swansea would be the correct registration district before I invest in ordering birth certificates? Or can anyone suggest an alternate strategy to try and pin him down?

Any suggestions or assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation.

Usually, you have 42 days to register a birth.
That limit could take the registration into the following year.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thanks FiddlersLass for the prompt response. I have seen this, however it states that Llandore, Morriston and Gorseinon were moved to West Glamorgan in 1983 or 1986 but it is not clear to me whether these places were previously included in Swansea as they are not listed.

Thanks KGarrad. Guess I need to invest in some birth records and see what pops up!

Gorseinon was (is?) a village in the parish of Llandeilo Talybont.
Morriston was (is?) in the parish of Llangyfelach.
Landore (note spelling!) also in the parish of Llangyfelach.
Treboeth is a suburb and historical village in the Mynydd-Bach ward of Swansea, Wales
