"Where was my 2 x G Grandmother a Servant?".
« on: Wednesday 13 March 24 14:31 GMT (UK) »
My 2 x G Grandmother was Ann Drinkwater b 1839 in Bowdon Altrincham . I would like to trace her background a bit if possible . All I know from the 1861 census in Bowdon is that at aged 21 she was a Servant . "But at what Address?". I am not subscribed to Ancestry at present and cannot access any deeper info on this . The census says Ann is working for a Mr Richard Stead and his Sister Mary .

Please could anyone find the address she worked at ?. Than I could google it and see if it was a grand house or not . Thank you .

Is the transcript not on family search?
All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Here Anne is in the 1861 census on FS. Residence is Rose Hill. Mr Stead is a solicitor.

Is this Anne in 1851? This Ann is a lodger and described as "nurse".  ???
William Drinkwater (age 9) is a lodger, too.

Another possibility for Ann in 1851:

Is this her family in 1841?

Or this family in 1841?

Thank you all for the discoveries here . Very interesting! So Ann was at Rose Hill with the Steads after all . I tried to google Rose Hill but to no avail . If Richard was a solicitor the house was probably middle class type . If anyone can find old pics of Rose Hill I appreciate it and thanks so much for this help.

I think you will need a local historian. I found Rose Hill in the right sort of place, but it doesn't appear to be an area of housing, possibly a large private area. (Between Langham Rd and East Downs Rd, but not now called Rose Hill.)
