Capt. Wallace Edgar Whittingham OBE RD R.N.R. was born in Kilburn, London on 24.2.1874. He first went to sea on 21 September 1888 and in 1889 commenced a 4-year apprentice in the Merchant Navy. He obtained his 2nd Mate’s Certificate of Competency in 1894, his Mate’s Certificate in 1897 and his Master’s Certificate in 1899.

Promoted Sub-Lieutenant RNR in 1902
Lt RNR in 1904, Lt-Cdr RNR in 1912, Commander RNR in 1914.
Gazetted OBE 1.1. 1919.
Demobilised on 14 June 1919, Whittingham was placed on the Retired List on account of age with the rank of Captain RNR on 24 February, 1924

He died at Watford on 2 March 1951
