I did start looking at how to order certificates from the GRO https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/faq.asp
but got a bit lost with the choices.  Does ordering online, with the reference, and requesting "Online digital image view" mean that you get sent a link wherefrom you can download it yourself in PDF? And that is the cheapest option at only £2.50? If so that is easier and cheaper than I thought it might be.   

I will have a look and re-read this thread, and perhaps take the plunge.  There is a first time for everything!

Yes, digital image for £2.50 is immediate with a link.

Adding to say…you select the “button” next to the event you want to order, and then the options for cert, pdf or digital come up for you to choose accordingly.

Unfortunately I think the £2.50 digital images are only for birth and death certificates. Marriages aren't yet included in this offer.

I'm not sure how much NZ death certificates are, that may be a cheaper option, though a death certificate is only as accurate as the informant knew - the marriage cert info is given by the couple themselves.
