The 1900 census has Joseph born July 1869 and his wife born February 1870, both in Russia. The two daughters were born in New York and, before their names were made more 'American,' they were called Feliksa (b. May 1895) and Wladyslawa (b. August 1899).

Joseph immigrated to the US in 1885 and his wife in 1886.

Birth of Martha M. Selmer in Schenectady, 10 June 1895.  Is this another name for the same child and a variant birth date?

To understand "Russian Poland" you have to understand a little of the history:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partitions_of_Poland
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congress_Poland

It would be worth looking at other Selmer/Celmer families in  Schenectady, as they may be related.

Wow and Thankyou...
The newspaper articles explain a lot, problems in Poland and problems in NY making name changes necessary...Ive had no luck at all with their immigration 1881 my thinking was that their town/village would get a mention that Joseph/Josef and Jozefa/Josephine came from

    Jozefa / Josephine/ Josie S-/Ziegler/Cziegler/Cegler formerly Ceglerski/-a. (1874 - July 1945 Schenectady)
Appreciate the help...Thankyou Rick in Australia
