Well done FindMyPast!
« on: Sunday 17 March 24 15:53 GMT (UK) »
Just for a change I would like to compliment one of our search sites!

On 8 March, FindMyPast launched a new item - Women's Land Army records.  I did my usual and entered the surname of Archbell (a lot easier than Appleyard, Kendall or Milner).  One result - Doreen Archbell.  BUT whilst the transcript fitted, the image did not.  So I rang them to ask for a correction.  After the weekend I received a response, and all is now OK - correction made and 15 March able to see Doreen's card.

Thank you FindMyPast  8)  (I have thanked them directly).
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.
He/she who never made a mistake, never made anything.
Archbell - anywhere, any date
Kendall - WRY
Milner - WRY
Appleyard - WRY

Yesterday BumbleB said -- BUT whilst the transcript fitted, the image did not.  So I rang them to ask for a correction.  After the weekend I received a response, and all is now OK - correction made and 15 March able to see Doreen's card.

This has happened to me two or three times when looking at military records -- each time FindMyPast have apologised and corrected the problem quickly. I have been with FindMyPast and Ancestry for 20+ years and I am seriously considering ditching Ancestry because of the past and current problems.

Scotland's People has the employment record cards for the Scottish Women's Land Army and the Timber Corps from 1939 -1950.

The index is free to search and shows name, date of birth, service branch and enrolment county/division. Records of women born less than 100 years ago are not available.

There is also a free guide to the records.

Ops, I have no connections at all to Scotland - but I hope that you (and everyone else) continue to benefit from the expansion of records available to us all.   ;D ;D
