This morning was very bright as was yesterday,   yesterday turned into a miserable day but today is sunny but very cold.

Our soil is clay,  years ago we bought something  to deal with it but it did no good at all,  I don't  mind using a good dollop of manure, remember  the days seeing someone following a horse with a bucket and spade?,,  well I am not sure my neighbours would appreciate it, dont get any here now, country smells as far as I am concerned.

Our priest has told us the bats are back,  think it might be due to the mild weather we had,  means we have to cover the chairs and pull up the runners in the pews,  an endless task dealing  with them as they are so messy.

Bumble, I like your Easter tree, you have been  busy.

Almost another week's diary due.

Enjoy your day everyone

Thank you LM - actually it takes about 5 minutes.  Many years ago, whilst in Belgium around Easter, I noticed that gardens and even motorhomes were decorated - SO!  I sent OH to the nearest supermarket and he came back with 3 packs of these plastic Easter eggs.  I've used them ever since to add a bit of colour for a few days, and I also decorate my porch with ideas for each of the seasons - Christmas (obvious), spring = the eggs, summer = mermaids on their deckchairs on the beach, and autumn = fungi and gnomes.  :-\

We have been in a beautiful sunny Filey today although very blustery at times.

BumbleB’s eggs look lovely.  They remind me of the little painted wooden ones my mother in law bought for us years ago but we used to put them on the Christmas tree, don’t ask! I think she must have given them to us at that time of year.  We still have them but don’t put them on the tree anymore, perhaps we should repurpose them for Easter.

I will put eggs in my trees, pastel coloured plastic ones.
No chocolate for Flash Harry and Kyra, they will have had enough already by the time they arrive here .
Books - I usually get them some.
I might make a cake with eggs and chicks on top.

Lime is supposed well it does make the structure of clay soil different, it binds the very fine granules together so drainage is improved,Roses like clay soil seemingly.

Years ago you could buy in Manchester’s Tib St,where there were pet shops ,day old chicks for 6d each .
Of course they were cockerels ,but such tiny little things, we constructed a feather duster from the top of the cardboard box  they were kept in..
They had never seen a hen but they nestled under the duster.
They scratched for food too, loved the cat and snuggled up with him on the hearth rug, whilst I cleaned their box out each day.
They soon grew feathers and when big enough, just a few weeks they went outside to join our three laying pullets.
They disappeared about Christmas time ———- well you see they were starting to crow and neighbours did not like it!
They went to a farm,  ::)——

So lovely, but a little life for6d—— not many stood any chance at all ,how cruel.

Just wallowing in a radio programme ,sixties  music .wow at the time I did not fully appreciate how good it was, a family growing up fast etc .
I have danced  round the kitchen ,Lulu on at the moment “,Shout”.
Now” She’s Not There” —- and now Long Long Live Love —

Well must get on, cheerio .Viktoria.

Viktoria
My brother and I (aged about 6 and 7) persuaded my mother to buy us each a day-old chick from the market.  The stallholder put them in a paper bag for us to take home and we made a little pen near the kitchen fire for them.  Of course they died a few days later and there was much wailing as we buried them in the back garden.
I still remember my father trying to revive them by feeding them with drops of water from a medical dropper.

Mum fed the chicks  chopped up hard boiled eggs ,then introduced cracked corn(from the big chickens’ food )  and brown bread crumbs .
Water in a small deepish bowl, so they could not fall in and drown.
It was amazing to see them scratch and step back when looking for food, all instinct.
Cheep cheep cheep ,aaaaaw, they were delightful .
Viktoria.P.S. We had a green grocery shop so greens which chickens need were also in plentiful supply ,chopped up finely at first but later in a cabbage net for them to jump up to snatch , good exercise ,the big chickens had some but much higher.

My parents bred chickens,   we had some baby chick's,  my brother trod on one and my mum took it to the vets, he had injured its wing, this baby chick actually lived indoors running around, it eventually went back into the garden,  we had nicked named it Limpet, I never knew if it landed up on my plate and didn't want to know either,
