Breage Baptism - WILLIAMS
« on: Sunday 17 March 24 23:58 GMT (UK) »
 ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
So this surname, I've been told, is the worst one to search for in Cornwall...and I am definitely finding this out!
I'm looking for a William Williams, born around 1829 in Breage. His father is also William.
If anyone can help that would be amazing!

There seems to be only one in 1829 on the Cornwall OPC :

William Henry WILLIAMS bap 17 Dec 1829, parents William and Elizabeth.
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=baptisms&id=6948143

However, see the note at the bottom of the page:
"missing from LDS scans, copied from IGI, please check original entries"

There is another with the same parents of Penhale in 1833:
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=baptisms&id=6948803

or another in 1833 with parents William and Jane at Trevena
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/more-info/?t=baptisms&id=6948936

Modified to add:
Do you know an occupation for the father? Can you see them on a census? Who did your William marry?

Hi! William Senior was a Tin miner. William junior married in 1864 to Selina Cock. His dad was deceased by this point

So possibly this family at Kenneggy Downs, Breage -  William (40, tin miner) and Elizabeth (40) WILLIAMS with son William and family in 1841
HO107/136/2 pg22

Of note, next door is an Elizabeth WILLIAMS (70) and family.

Do you think that's William Seniors mum next door? I don't suppose you know how to get juniors mums maiden name?

Unfortunately as he was born prior to civil registration, his mother's maiden name is unlikely to be recorded on his baptism.

So difficult with such a common name! There is also this 1841 census with parents William (35, tin miner) and Jane (35) at Trew, Breage:

Modified to add:
Another family - William (65, tin miner) and Elizabeth (45) with son William (14) and family. Interestingly there is a COCK family next door, though no Selina there in 1841.

If you think this family from the 1841 census is correct.... then I think these are the parents .....
Marriage 19 July 1823 BREAGE
William WILLIAMS Bachelor of Germoe
Elizabeth SCHOLAR spinster of Breage
Witnesses – John Williams and George Hebbard

Their son John baptised 26 Aug 1827 (was baptised in Germoe, the father's parish) and is seen on that 1841 census record.
When the youngest Mary Jane was baptised in Breage (28 Mar 1837 ) they were living at Kennegy Downs.
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

It certainly is very tricky. Who are the witnesses on the 1864 marriage? They may offer a clue.
