Hello again,If I apply for a birth cert from GRO for the year 1873 will that tell me the mother's  maiden name >I know the son's name,when he was born & when he died.

Have you tried this site, you just need to login and it gives mother’s names from the indexes.
You can then buy a copy of the entry for £2.50, I think.

great ,cheaper than the full one ,thanks
i know the mother was from Poulton lancs/;Fylde
and i think her name was Hughes ,this would clarify research
