Question 1

There are a lot of Stephenson (with variants) records at DRO. If I search for just Baptisms there are still too many to display. If I filter to Chester-le-Street (District) there are 723 baptism matches starting from the year 1600.

If you go to DRO and follow the “What We Offer” tab and scroll down you will get some idea of the range of records available – again have a look at Chester-le-Street/St Mary and St Cuthbert for an example.

Thanks, I'm taking all this onboard, now making some headway into 1700's, so not impossible.

I'm still curious if Stephenson originates northern England or Scotland.

kind regards

I've managed to piggy back right thru the 1700's into 1673 off someone's family tree from ancestry.com. they were missing George Stephenson 1813-1872 from their tree, now added.

kind regards

Be cautious about adopting someone else's research. Always best to do your own, though you can use other trees as a starting point - they are often incorrect and need verifying.

Hi

AlanBoyd:
‘abode’ just for clarification, I see it in DRO but never used it, for census addresses or is
there more to it?, could you give a hypothetical example

Maddys52:
Yep understood, 4 trees as source all different in parts, accurate to ~1770. Beyond, possibly ok.

kind regards
