Charles & Eliza SPARROW
« on: Tuesday 19 March 24 23:54 GMT (UK) »

Hi,

I am trying to find children for Charles and Eliza SPARROW, (maiden name unknown), they did have one son that I know of and his name was also Charles, born 5 January 1835, Belfast, Antrim, Ireland, died 1882 in Belfast.

Thank You

Cienna.

I searched for Sparrow marriages in the Belfast area 1855-1875 but only found this one which is presumably Charles junior:

8264049.pdf (irishgenealogy.ie) (The link doesn't seem to be accessible so you may need to look the marriage up on irishgenealogy, if you don't already have it. 1865.

The family are in the City Cemetery:

Charles William died 20.3.1954
Mary Jane 4.5.1950
Charles 5.1.1882
Eliza 4.2.1881 aged 75 (his mother perhaps?)
Charles 9.2.1909

In a letter to The Belfast Weekly Telegraph, 14 Jan 1882, drawing attention to Chas Sparrow's treatment on admission to the Workhouse Hospital, the writer ( a near neighbour in Church Street) refers to the deceased leaving "three helpless orphans unprovided for".

Much of the information I posted here earlier was actually found on another thread which you started on 1 March-
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=880809.0

Charles William Sparrow and Mary Jane seem to have had four children- Robert (1900), Emma (1902), Charles (1906), Margaret (1912).

On page 1 of the other thread some details for 1911 census are listed (not sure why poster omitted some things and/or didn't post a link). Here is the link-
https://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Clifton/Rosewood_Street/146947/

You've already been given marriage for Margaret (twice).

Irish Genealogy only has vital records for Northern Irish counties up to 1921 and after that date you need to check GRONI's site (which is where Margaret Sparrow's marriage was found).

Possible marriage for Charles (you'd need to view registration to verify-
M/1940/B1/644/8/3   Charles   Sparrow   McConnell   20th June 1940   Belfast

Not sure is this record was mentioned before? stillborn child (1872)-

There's a possibility, only a possibility at this point, that Charles William Sparrow born 1906 was known as William. There's a burial in Dundonald Cemetery for a William Sparrow in 1966 age 60-
https://online.belfastcity.gov.uk/find-burial-records/BurialRecordDetails.aspx?RecordID=8705.3772
Residence given as Bangor and other person in plot is a four year old boy with same surname.
The reason I say it's possibly Charles William is that there doesn't seem to be a matching birth in Ireland for a William Sparrow around 1906.
