Help with 1568 will (English)
« on: Wednesday 20 March 24 12:26 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help with this will of Bertrand Thymblethorpe 1568.  I am unable to determine names.
I have attached the opening paragraph for some context.
Line 7, one third of way along goes like this (I think):
“Item I give unto my sister *** Pype”.   Don’t quite understand as this should be Mildred Pype (nee Thymblethorpe), and I can’t make that out.
Also at the end of same line and onto the next line is the following: “Item to ******** Pype on the day of her marriage” etc.
Any suggestions, please.

The image on Ancestry is much clearer.

It is:  ...unto my syster Pype to the releife of her childrenn...

The P is quite an extravagant affair.

The second mystery word is:  theodre ie ...theodre Pype...

If it isn't a name, this could mean:  the other

How does this fit with what you know of the family?

Thank you for that. His "syster Pype" would in fact be his sister Mildred who m Wm Pype, deceased by this time, but the next ("theodre Pype") does not appear to exist amongst the offspring.
These are the correct people, and there are a few more Pype references further down the will, but no specific names, so it needs more investigation. There are also several references to my Thymblethorpe ancestors, so a few gaps filled.
Thank you, all the same.
